Week 4 20th September 2021
What a super busy week Year 2 have had. We have nearly finished our Adventure Stories in class. These were based on the story of Henry the Explorer. The children have used some fantastic ideas using a similar theme. They have really helped to capture and build the suspense in the story. Next week we will finish them off, and I will upload them into the gallery for you to read.
In maths, the children have been using their number bonds to 10 and 20 to solve harder number sentences. It is important all the children can recall and memorise their number bonds fluently. This will enable them to feel more confident in maths.
In our topic work this week the children have developed their art skills by designing their own landscape picture including their ideal Australian Home. A landscape painting or drawing refers to an artwork that is natural scenery, such as mountains, forests, cliffs, trees, rivers, valleys, etc. Their choices included houses outside the cities in suburbs, homes in the outback and the rainforest. They used chalks and oil pastels to create an interesting effect. Their art was based on the artist Jean Metzinger. He created landscape drawings using bright bold colours with dots. Please see the gallery for your children's work.
The children then drew their termly self-portrait. The children looked back to their previous drawings dating back to when they were in reception! Please see the gallery of their portraits.
In R.E., the children will soon be completing their first topic. They have learnt more about the Creation Story and reflected on what they do to show they care and love God's creation. The children have written prayers and psalms giving thanks and praise to God and the special world he has created for us.
In computing this week, the children have learnt how to find safe links online to find out information about our topic. The children have been demonstrating their respect for our school laptops and using them responsibly. They have learnt to type in their username and password, demonstrating their desire to be independent.
Great work Year 2.
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Ingram :)
