Week 11 15th November 2021
This week in maths the children in Year 2 have been impressing me with their ability to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. This can be quite tricky to begin with, however year 2 were very clever at looking, noticing and explaining patterns in each sequence
.
They transferred the skills they learnt by applying the same rules to counting money. They were able to work out how much they had in their purse by counting 2p, 5p and 10p coins. It was great seeing that children count 3 or more coins together. We will continue to build on these skills throughout the year.
In English, we have started our poetry unit! It has been great fun listening to a range of different poems. Some made us feel happy, sad and scared; others made us giggle. The children will continue to be exposed to a wide variety of poems in the next 2 weeks. We have been learning about alliteration and onomatopoeia and applying those skills to creating our own list poems.
We are continuing to develop our geography skills. The children planned their journey across the world just like the great explorer Christopher Columbus did. This was a great opportunity to recap on our knowledge of our world continents and oceans. We will build on this next week as we learn more about Christopher's expeditions.
The children are working hard to remember all the new songs and their lines for our Key Stage Nativity. There is a wonderful sense of excitement building! We are really looking forward to our performance, which you will be able to see in December.
In R.E. we have started our new topic - Preparations. The children have been learning about why preparing is important, and how we prepare for Jesus at Christmastime.
We look forward to having our class prayer service next Tuesday 23rd November with Father Bernard.
