Through God’s love we learn together, grow together and achieve together.

This week has been another action packed week of learning in Year 2.

The children have been learning how to add 2-digit numbers to each other without crossing 10 in Maths.  I am amazed at how resourceful the children have been to developing their mastery in maths.  The children used 100 squares and 100 bead strings to help their learning.  They are starting to develop a good understanding of the place value of numbers which is making it easier for them to learn more quickly.  The children have also identified that they can achieve the answers more fluently if they are more confident reciting their number bonds to 10.

In English the children have been writing a set of instructions on how to catch a wombat.  This was building on last week's learning and the children have all achieved this.  Their writing was very creative, and I am pleased that we all now know how to create a happy, safe home for a mischievous wombat! (Don't worry no wombats will be harmed!) They are being enticed by delicious food to their new luxurious home.   Now all the humans in the story can relax knowing that no more holes will be scratched in the doors; dug up in the garden; and made in the shopping bags! PHEW!

The children have enjoyed making music in ICT.  We used Chrome Music Lab ( to support our learning.  Year 2 created some excellent rhythms linked to their favourite animals.  It was superb fun.

Mrs Farrow was very kind this week and gave us some Australian resources to explore for our topic.  Her mum was a nurse in Port Augusta, Australia which was fascinating to learn.  We learnt how a digeridoo was made and played; all about the flying doctors; and more about the School of Air.  The children were able to identify how this type of schooling had similarities to how we learnt during Lockdown.

Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend Year 2!
