Finding out from Fossils: The Stone Age
Year Three will also be focussing on the Stone Age. We will be using the book 'Stone Age Boy' by Satoshi Kitamura to inspire our learning. Our learning will focus around what life was like in the Stone Age, hunting and gathering as well as cave art and jewellery in the Stone Age. They will learn how Stone Age people lived and provided for themselves, the animals that lived at the same time and what a Stone Age person looked like.
English:
The class will be focusing on recounts, fairy tales and persuasive writing this half-term. The children will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge of vocabulary, audience and purpose as we explore these genres of writing. In recounts, we will be using our grammar knowledge of past tense, chronological order and giving detail in our writing. During our work on fairy tales we will be focusing on exploring the view point of a 'good character' and 'bad character' in Jack and the Beanstalk and how we can change this perspective writing from another characters view point. Finally, in persuasive writing we will be looking at adverts and how persuasive language is used to encourage an action or reaction of the reader.
Maths:
In Maths, we will be covering a variety of learning areas this half-term:
- Doubling and halving up to 100.

RE:
During RE we will cover the topics of Promises and Visitors.
Our topic on Promises will engage the children with the first Sacrament of Baptism including the process of baptism, signs and symbols that are used and the importance of the promises that are made to the baby during the baptism. Children will reflect on their own baptisms or baptisms they have been to and discuss the importance of sharing the Catholic faith.
In our Visitors topic will prepare the children for the season of Advent and why, as Catholics, we prepare and welcome this season. The children will explore the Old Testament scriptures and discover Gods plan to send Jesus. They will also read New Testament scriptures of the Visitation of Mary and understand why she is a key figure in the story of the Nativity. The children will also explore the shepard and wise men visits in the Nativity, exploring the reasons for these visits and why they are significant to us today.
