Through God’s love we learn together, grow together and achieve together.

This half term we are learning about Australia.  The children will have the opportunity to research about various Australian habitats, wildlife and landmarks.  In Geography, we will compare the similarities and differences of Australia and other countries.  By the end of the topic we will be able to name the oceans and continents of the world.

Our work on Australia will inspire our writing.  This term we will be exploring different types of non-fiction texts and learning about their features.  Our first piece of writing will be an explanation text about a flying machine that we are inventing.  Then we will learn how to write a non-chronological report based on an Australian animal.

In maths this term, the children will be learning how to measure lengths using centimetres and metres.  They will then learn how to add, subtract and double 2-digit numbers.   This will come to support them when they learn to find the total of different coins and use the coins to make different amounts.  The children will then examine multiplication where they will be learning to count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

In science the children will be turning the classroom into a laboratory as they become scientists! The children will be learning about everyday materials and their uses.  They will have the opportunity to be presented with different challenges to solve which will help them engage with this topic.
