Through God’s love we learn together, grow together and achieve together.

The children have come back after their half-term break with an excellent attitude to their learning.  They have been working hard all week to share their topic learning with you on Friday.  I was so impressed with the speed they have learnt their lines.  We hope you enjoy the show!

In English this week, we have started a new writing unit on myths.  We have learnt that people in history told myths which were retold over generations.  The reason such stories were told was to help explain why and how things were created in our world.  The children have been exploring a variety of different myths from all over the world.  They have compared their similarities and differences and explored the features they found in each myth.  They have made an excellent start in writing character and setting descriptions to start writing their own myth.

For maths this week the children are beginning to tell the time to the nearest quarter of an hour using analogue and digital clocks; they are starting to understand the relationship between seconds, minutes and hours and use a tally chart.  Towards the end of the week the children are starting to interpret and complete a pictogram or block graph where one block or symbol represents one or two things.

In our topic, the children have been learning about the Great Plague.  This understandably was quite upsetting to learn about how the people may have suffered during this time.  However, it was a great opportunity to explore how we can all learn from history and see how life can improve so dramatically to make our lives better and safer.
