Through God’s love we learn together, grow together and achieve together.

Communication and Language is an integral part of your child's learning journey and here at St Luke's Nursery, we want to do everything we can to support you with this. Over the coming weeks, we will be posting useful tips and information to support you and your child with this important life skill.

You could ask questions such as  ....

Where do you put your things in the morning?

What is your favourite thing to do in Nursery?

Tell me about your favourite place in the classroom.

What do you have to do before you go outside?

Where do you have your snack? What do you talk about when you are at the table?

Remember, if you would like to share your child's learning with us you could record them and post an observation on Tapestry.

The DfE launched Hungry Little Minds –a campaign to help Parents and Carers support their children with early communication, language and literacy development. This helpful website has a number of simple, fun activities for children, from birth to five. It also includes useful videos and app suggestions that will also support early communication.

All the little things you do with your child – like everyday conversations, make-believe play and reading together – make a big difference to their development. The Hungry Little Minds campaign provides lots of ideas that can help boost your child’s learning. You can slot them into your routine and your children will love them. Such as:

• Play ‘I spy’ on the bus with them and you can see their imaginations light up.

• Talk to your child about what has happened so far in the day – for example, “We went to the shops this morning, didn’t we? We bought some apples.” And talk about what is going to happen next – “After lunch we’ll do the washing up”.

• Look at picture books together. With each new page, give your child time to point out things to you and talk about what they can see.
