Week 7 WB 11th October 2021
Year 2 have had a great week finalising their explanation texts. They have each created a manual for their exploring machines. Their handwriting is improving every day and I can see their ideas are coming together beautifully. I will be showing off their work during parents evening next week for you to see.
In maths, we have been continuing our learning of place value. At the beginning of the week we learnt what ordinal numbers were. Then using the context of money the children started to understand that 2-digit numbers are made from 10s and some 1s. This helped them understand the value of 10p and 1p coins. Using this knowledge the children worked systematically to find and record all the possible amounts they could find using 9 coins. The children were encouraged to verbalise any patterns that they could see and explain their learning.
For our topic this week we have been developing our geographical knowledge. The children learnt that there are 7 continents and 5 oceans. Using interactive games, atlases and globes the children were able to develop their understanding. The children even taught me a song to help me remember!
During our classroom worship this week, we continued our learning about the Rosary. The children learnt of the Visitation where Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth, which is the 2nd Joyful Mystery. The children will continue to learn how to say the whole Rosary on Tuesday. They are welcome to bring in their own beads.
We have started our new R.E topic - Signs and Symbols. We are learning about the Baptism ceremony. If the children have any photos to share of their own Baptism it would be wonderful to share with the class.
Have a wonderful weekend Year 2. Have a rest! You have all worked very hard.
