4. 3...2...1...BLAST OFF
3...2...1... BLAST OFF!
This half term we looked at the Moon Landing and spaceships.
We focussed on the Apollo 11 mission and the astronauts who bravely took part in this amazing moment in history. We used the book 'Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator' by Roald Dahl, which sees Charlie and his family in the middle of a space adventure! We used this book to help us write our own stories which were set in imaginary settings. We junk modelled some spaceships of our own! We used our 'junkyard' to build spaceships that would keep a water balloon safe. Once these spaceships were built we tested their strength by throwing them out of the classroom window then out of the music room window. Some of our spaceships were successful in keeping the water balloon safe, some however, needed repairing!
We also made some smaller spaceships which can be seen in the photo album on this page. We wrote a set of instructions, explaining how to create these amazing spaceships!
We were inspired by the work of artist Peter Thorpe who creates fantastic pictures of spaceships, so using paints we created our own versions of his wonderful paintings.
This term we have also been very busy rehearsing for our Easter Play, which was absolutely fantastic! I would like to say a massive thank you to you all for supporting our class through this busy time. What a fantastic job they did! I am very proud of them all.
