Welcome back after - hopefully what a restful break.  The children have been full of lovely stories and new memories created over this festive time.  This has been a joy to hear.

We have started our new topic Fire Fire!  Our Hook with a Book has inspired them to ask lots of questions and show curiosity in their learning.  The children were very excited to receive a letter from Thomas Farriner - a baker on Pudding Lane.

The children got to work!  They prepared their bakers hats and followed the instructions carefully to create the most delicious bread.  The children couldn't wait to eat it.  The whole school smelt of the bread baking, and we got a few visitors to the classroom asking if they could try some too.  We might have to open our own bakery :) Please click the tab to see some pictures.

We have started our new R.E topic - Books.  This was a lovely opportunity to find out about all the different types of books we have available.  The children created some wonderful collages of different books that they enjoy reading.  As the topic goes on, we will learn of sacred books and writings that are part of our religion.

We have started Guided Reading this term. We are reading Sammy the Street Dog.  This book is set during the Great Fire of London.   We explore one book over each 6-week period and read the same few pages over again each day to develop fluency and focus on a different reading skill.  This will also in time develop the children's stamina in reading.  We will cover fluency, inference, vocabulary and comprehension skills.  This will promote an excellent opportunity to deepen their level of understanding of the text in an enjoyable way.
